How it works

  1. 01Knead the clay to work out the air bubbles.
  2. 02Shape it: coiling, pinching, slabs, or assembling several parts.
  3. 03Smooth the surfaces, add patterns if you like.

What's included

You take your piece home the same day. It then dries for 24 hours in the open air at your place, away from direct sun.

A few techniques

A shape that is too thin will crack as it dries, one that is too tall will not stand well.

  • Coil: stack rolls of clay and smooth them together.
  • Pinch: hollow out the ball with your thumbs, working from the inside out.
  • Slab: roll the clay flat, then assemble.
  • Aim for about 2 cm thick: it dries quickly and holds well.
  • Dampen your hands lightly now and then. Too much water and it slips, too little and the clay gets hard to work.

You take your piece home the same day. It then dries for 24 hours in the open air at your place, away from direct sun, and we give you a box to carry it in. As the clay is neither fired nor glazed, it must not be used with food or water.

Do I need to have modelled before?
No, no experience is needed. Coil, pinch, slab: we show you the basic techniques at the start of the session.
Do I take my piece home the same day?
Yes. You take it with you when you leave, and we give you a box to carry it in. It then dries for 24 hours in the open air at your place, away from direct sun.
Does the piece go in a kiln?
No. Air-dry clay dries in the open air, with no firing.
How much clay do I get?

How long does a session last?
Two hours, like every activity on the Art Menu.
Can we come as a group?
